Pardon me. This cartoon might not seem as amusing as it is or perhaps, somewhat irrelevant to the topic I’m going to discuss today! Or maybe it is. Oh well, it’s for you to decide.(:

Have you heard of pollution credits? OR pollution permits? OR emissions trading for that fact? Can you distinctly remember that we brought it during geography lesson at one point? Haha. According to http://www.revisionguru.co.uk/economics/govern5.htm, pollution permits are a combination of command and control and market-based approaches to the task of limiting pollution emissions. This website, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emissions_trading, meanwhile, says that emission trading is an administrative approach used to control pollution by providing economic incentives for achieving reductions in the emissions of pollutants. The unknown, and probably totally unheard of, terms basically refers to a measure taken by governments to reduce pollution emissions.

I’m not going to discuss what emissions trading or its benefits are. You can look that up for yourself.(: But for now, I’m just going to say that I THINK without globalisation, emissions trading would never have happened effectively. Firstly, with globalisation, it surfaces the cooperation of governments in instigating measures to combat global warming, which are partly the consequences of globalisation (it’s a cycle). AND with globalisation, you can solve the problem you created!(: how cool can that be? I love globalisation.

The good thing about globalisation and emissions trading is that countries are able to gain money if they sell their pollution permits. I’m not really sure about the effectiveness of emissions trading in reducing pollution though. Afterall, the same amount of pollutants are released into the air & thus, contributing to global warming.

BUT thumbs up for emissions trading! Personally, I think that emissions trading also ensures interaction between governments. With interaction, we are able to discuss this cliché yet crucial matter that seems to affect everyone on earth - global warming. Ironic huh? We’re attempting to reverse the consequences of our actions. Tsktsktsk.
Shall always plant roses,
Dinie.(:
